Post Jam Update
KILL RING » Devlog
The rating period ended earlier today so it's time for an update! This is mostly smaller quality of life changes, nothing too drastic. Play it now in the browser, or download one of the builds for windows and linux.
Changelog:
- Adjusted difficulty levels and generally increased the difficulty a little
- Increased base damage for the bot, 8 > 9.5
- Increased bot health on Legend difficulty slightly, 115 > 125
- Added damage scaling to bot weapon with difficulty level
- Fodder = 0.8x
- Blooded = 1x
- Legend = 1.3x
- Adjusted the crate-filled corner of DM Market to improve flow. It felt too claustrophobic to me in the original map design.
- Added invisible blockers to DM Market to prevent the player from going out-of-bounds once they unlock double jump.
Reworked corner of DM Market - it's more open now. Also visible are the OOB blockers.
- Moved the upper health pack in DM Heights into the crossway so it's a little more visible.
- Made health packs glow so they are more visible.
- Made collision shape of health packs a little larger so they are easier to pick up. I noticed myself missing them during testing when I feel like I should have picked it up.
- Added screen color tints when getting shot and when picking up a health pack to better communicate health changes to the player.
- Added a mouse sensitivity slider to the options menu.
- Added a hotkey hint to the top-left corner of the screen for the pause menu so that players know it exists.
- The player's body now gets hidden when they die so it isn't frozen in space and casting shadows.
- Did some work in the initialization/shader compilation screen to hopefully reduce stutters while playing. Not sure if the changes will have much effect but it's worth a shot.
- Made the player auto-die when falling off the map (specifically when the player position is y = -25). There are kill volumes in place to do this but I had a comment that they fell past it anyway and didn't have a way to respawn. I couldn't reproduce the issue so this should at least work as a failsafe.
- Added credit to Ovani Sound for the SFX and music. They make good stuff, check them out!
That's it for now. I may work on this game some more but every time I say that I move on to other projects so I don't want to promise anything. I do like the direction this game is headed though. I also wanted to do a bit of a post-mortem/technical discussion so I might write one up this weekend. If I put it off longer I probably won't get around to it lol.
